Today is the day!

Today is the big day!  Applications are due today for organizations interested in partnering with Volunteer Maryland for our 2011-2012 service year!  I’m really excited to see what organizations apply this year.  As a second year AmeriCorps member with Volunteer Maryland, I’ve had the chance to interact with many different organizations.  Some of the organizations we are partnering with for this service year were also partners last year, and I’m sure some of the organizations we are partnering with this year will be applying again for next year.  We love our second year partners because they know what a VM partnership is all about and tend to be really good at supporting the VMC who serves with them.  But I’m also really looking forward to the new applicants who have never partnered with Volunteer Maryland before.

Our goal as an organization is to strengthen communities across Maryland by empowering all Maryland citizens to take action.  Our AmeriCorps members do a really great job of this by recruiting volunteers to serve in their own communities.  Last year alone, our 32 VMCs recruited over 6,200 volunteers who served over 53,200 community members.  That’s a pretty big impact, but there is still a long way to go in order to reach every Maryland citizen, and that’s why I’m excited to see the new applicants.  They give us a chance to reach communities we’ve never reached before and to make an even greater impact on the citizens of Maryland.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know the 2011-2012 Service Sites, so if you haven’t turned in your partnership application yet, make sure to have it in by close of business today!
