Brandon Carrington has always pushed himself; he bought his first home when he was 19 and taught himself how to play the guitar. So when he saw the Volunteer Maryland Coordinator position with Suitland Family and Life Development Corporation, he knew this was something he could commit to. “I was looking for a job working with people and the community, particularly children,” said Brandon. “I decided that it was time for me to do some volunteer work in my community.” Brandon says that volunteering has represented some of the best times in his life, so he will use his passion for service and his love of a challenge to recruit and manage volunteers that will serve in a community garden with community members and students at Suitland Elementary School, Drew Freeman Middle School, and Suitland High School. Brandon ultimately hopes to gain “any and everything” from the Volunteer Maryland experience and educate others on the importance of a healthy diet and urban agriculture.
