“I was motivated to apply for and accept this challenge by a persistent need to help the children in our communities,” said Karen Lee, Volunteer Maryland Coordinator with Montgomery Parks in Silver Spring, MD. With a background in human resource management, Karen is excited to share her knowledge of how people work and best practices for getting positive results. Her role with Montgomery Parks will focus on the recruitment of volunteers to serve as interpretive guides for three historic sites which interpret the African American experience in Montgomery County: Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park, the Underground Railroad Experience Trail, and the Josiah Henson Special Park. Karen is a self described foodie who enjoys exploring cuisine from German to Thai and everything in between. One of her long-term goals is to refine her recruiting skills so she can demonstrate to other organizations a proven ability to find, train, and retain volunteers and staff.
