Cassandra (Cassie) Kelly grew up in Londonderry, New Hampshire surrounded by family and community involvement. Her parents ingrained a sense of community into Cassie and her siblings, so when she left New Hampshire to attend James Madison University she continued to build community through volunteering and as President of the Amnesty International Chapter. She studied abroad in Florence, Italy, volunteering as an English Teachers Assistant. Cassie was a part of an AmeriCorps Bonner program during the summer of 2011, and this experience, along with her interest in volunteering, brought her to taking on the Volunteer Maryland Coordinator with the YWCA of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. Cassie will work within the crisis intervention and mentoring programs, engaging volunteers in tutoring and mentoring in after-school programs, making follow-up phone calls to victims of domestic violence, childcare in a domestic violence safe house, medical accompaniment, and community education. Cassie wants to continue working within nonprofits, focusing on women’s rights and/or human rights.
