Nina Lewis credits her mom for instilling in the passion to help others, “I began feeding the hungry, and donating my clothes to those in need, at the age of 11,” Nina said. So when it came to deciding on an organization to do a term of service as a Volunteer Maryland Coordinator, United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) became the obvious choice. Nina will recruit and coordinate volunteers that will serve clients in an emergency homeless shelter, providing workshops, tutoring, and conducting drives for the shelter residents. “This program was a fit for me because it allowed me to wed my passion for serving in the community with my professional career as a human resources manager. I look forward to the rewarding year ahead, knowing every day the work I do will make a difference in someone’s life,” Nina said concerning her motivation to become a part of Volunteer Maryland. Nina is a California native and a proud graduate from the University of Southern California. Nina hopes to continue working in the nonprofit sector serving individuals facing homelessness.
