Sam Mestan recently completed a degree in Social Work at the University of Iowa, and she is dedicated to enabling communities to obtain or expand their services related to health issues. She believes that quality health care is a basic human right and everyone should have access to the services they need. Sam hopes that her service as Volunteer Maryland Coordinator with Shepherd’s Clinic and Joy Wellness Center will enable her to apply the skills she has obtained as a social worker. She looks forward to recruiting volunteers and giving them the the tools to carry out the mission of Shepherd’s Clinic, and therefore expand the clinic’s programs and services.
After her service year with Volunteer Maryland, Sam hopes to pursue a Master’s of Social Work with a focus on health. Her long term goals are to work on policies, administration, and advocacy, and Sam believes that being a Volunteer Maryland Coordinator will give her great tools to enhance her knowledge and skills in this area.
