A recent graduate of Towson University, Nimat Traore grew up in Montgomery County and says she has always had an interest in helping Montgomery County residents in need, especially when it comes to their health. So when an opportunity to serve as Volunteer Maryland Coordinator with Montgomery County Community Action Agency, Nimat was eager to learn more.
Nimat will be recruiting volunteers for a dynamic partnership between Montgomery County Community Action and Maryland Hunger Solutions. Nimat will recruit volunteers who provide financial services at VITA sites. People receiving these services will also learn about applying for SNAP, and, if necessary, receive referrals to local food banks and pantries.
Nimat observes that by working with Montgomery County Community Action to develop this volunteer program, “I can help my community by building up the programs, facilities, and organizations which help those in need and by making people aware of the different services that they are entitled to as well as encouraging community members to think of those in need.”
Throughout the year, Nimat hopes to learn as much as she can about volunteer recruitment and management, and she believes this experience will help her build skills for future professional opportunities.
